MCSE Self Study Is An Option For The Committed

Mcse Self Study

Many people have the desire to get their MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer) certification because they know how important it is to be certified. They just may not have the time or money to go to school or boot camp. There are numerous advantages to obtaining your MCSE. For one, MCSE's typically garner a higher wage than other computer professionals that have not earned their certification. Also, if you are looking for a job, having an MCSE will make you more appealing to potential employers. It shows that you have the knowledge and technical skills that they desire. It also shows you have the determination to get through all the exams required to earn your certification. A recent report stated that MCSE's typically earn in the $55,000 to $90,000 per year range.

In order to achieve MCSE status, you must take and pass seven Microsoft exams. There are several required exams and then a few elective exams that you must pass. The required exams are in Microsoft networks and operating systems such as Windows 2003 Server and Windows XP Professional. The electives cover anything from MS SQL Server to Microsoft Exchange. Most people who take the exams agree that the exams are extremely difficult and even systems engineers with years of experience may have trouble passing the exams without studying. This is where self study courses come in. With a self study course, you can spend as much or as little time as you want preparing for your exam.

Some people prefer going to school to learn to become an MCSE. The problem with this approach is the large time and financial commitment to learning. First, you must physically go to a school. And then you must commit several months to years depending on the program you are enrolled in. And then the cost is several thousand dollars. Other people prefer to go the boot camp. MCSE boot camp also has its advantages and disadvantages. The advantages include intensive study and the ability to get your certification in about two weeks. The disadvantages include very intensive study (some people get overloaded and burn out during the two weeks at boot camp), the relatively high cost (several thousand dollars) and the time commitment.

Self study is a good option for people who can remain committed to studying and are disciplined enough to persevere. The self study route to achieving your MCSE is going to require lots of reading. And lots more reading! You may have several thousand pages of text to read through and study. You will also want to purchase and try some practice exams so you get a feel for the type and difficulty of the exam structure.

For self study you actually have two choices. First, you could simply buy the exam study guides at your local bookstore or online. You will spend a lot of time reading and trying out the practice exercises in the books. Many of these books also come with CD-ROM's with practice exercise and practice exams. Some even come with trial versions of the Microsoft software so you can practice. The second option is online self study, also called distance learning. This is web-based self study which you do from your computer. This type of self-study is all online with all the material available for you to read from your computer and also online practice exams for you to try.

In either case, you can earn your MCSE using self study methods. It all depends on the type of student you are. Some people are not motivated or dedicated enough to stick with self study. For these types of people, a traditional school or boot camp is the way to go. However, many people can stick with self study and pass all their exams to earn their MCSE.

MCSA Exam

By Graham Ridley
Every exam has its own format and passing requirements. These will help gauge the examinees capacity to handle the job at hand. The exam format will help the examiner gauge the knowledge base and the skill set of the examinee. The examiner should design the exam format in such a way that it will be able to cover all aspects. The results of the exam should be able to tell the examiner whether the examinee is qualified or not.
